Nothing beats a failure but a try.

For as long as I can remember, I've been HUSTLIN.  Before receiving my High School Diploma, it seemed I had done everything and worked everywhere.  I'd gone from shining shoes at the airport, to selling food on the side of the road.  From car-hoppin at the drive-in, to grounds-keepin at the cemetery. From being a telemarketer at the agency, to being a customer service rep at the tuxedo shop.  And by the time I was applying for college, I had done more than most of the kids graduating.

This experience was most valuable during the summer of my freshman year, because it helped me land an internship that I would hold down throughout my college career.  And, while it was uncommon for freshmen to have internships, it was the best thing that ever happened to me.  

Having been exposed to so much so soon, by the end of my junior year, I decided that instead of waiting until after graduation, I would take a stab at starting My Own Business.  

The year was 1995, THE HUSTLE was throwing events for black college students on a predominately white campus, and the motto was "makin money and havin fun doin it."  

Needles to say, I had no one around to make sure that I was only having as much fun as I could handle, and I was admittedly not the right man for that job.  And so, by 1997, my college years would come to an end, with my first failed business under my belt, and no degree or money to show for all the fun I had.  It was during those three years however, that buzz The Entrepreneur was born, and an undeniable flame was left burning when I had to face my 1ST early retirement.

If at first you don't succeed, try, and try again.

After a three year run as a high-end-temp, in Corporate America, I could not help but notice that I always had one foot out the door.  Convinced that I should put some effort into figuring out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, and convinced that what I was doing was definitely not it, I decided that the next corporate project would be my last, after which, I would dust off my Entrepreneur's hat and give starting My Own Business another shot.  Not knowing for certain what I wanted to do, my strategy was to simply HUSTLE some of my existing interests, and see which one would stick.  

The year was 2001, MY HUSTLES were: buzz The Personal Tax Preparer, buzz The Personal Trainer, buzz The Photographer, and buzz The Model, and the motto was "sometimes you have to build the plane while you flying it." 

By the end of the 2002 tax season, buzz The Photographer and buzz The Model had teamed up to throw everyone else out of the plane.  And, by the summer of 2003, buzz The Photographer was the last man standing, and a new vision for a new business started to surface, as the result of which, buzzMEDIA was born.  

Like everything that I've ever put my mind to, buzzMEDIA took off.  I was able to quickly establish myself as one of Chicago's Premier digital photographers, specializing in event photography.  Intending to build from there, I knew that I needed to create an opportunity to expand my business and my skills.  And so, my 1st move was to team up with one of Chicago's Premier studios (studio415), enabling me to service studio photography clients, while simultaneously, expanding my skill set by way of, what I called, earned exposure.  

Proving to be and effective method of expansion, as buzzMEDIA continued to flourish, what seemed a natural 2nd move, led me to expand my business and my skills once again... this time, adding a graphic and web designer to my team, enabling me to service design clients, while simultaneously, expanding my skill set thru my selfsame earned exposure method.  

Quite impressed with myself, in a matter of two years, there were big clients on the roister (Miller & Bud)... big projects in the works (Bud Light Enfocate Tour & Miller Model Search)... and buzzMEDIA had expanded to become buzzMEDIA STUDIO.  In a matter of two years, I had gone from knowing nothing about studio photography to traveling with my own studio around the City of Chicago and Across The Country. I had gone from not knowing anything about Graphics and Web Design to managing my own sites and creating my own collaterals.  

What I should have anticipated however, was that projects would come to an end, client contacts and relationships would change, and team members would move on to bigger and better things.  And that in preparation for the inevitable, I needed to have been more prepared to adapt.  That no matter how great things were today, I was still required to keep building for tomorrow. 

I can admit now that buzz The Photographer turned creative, was much more focussed on flying the plane than building it, and that while buzzMEDIA took me on national tours and to many places that I would have never imagined, by the end of 2008, it would be the reason why buzz The Entrepreneur would be facing his 2ND early retirement. 

The third time is a charm.

Holding on desperately to the saying "the 3RD time is a charm," I decided not to think of this as setback, but instead as an opportunity to gather myself and rebuild.  I decided to embrace all the mistakes that I had made, identify all the positives worth taking with me, and leave everything else behind.  Having lightened my load, I began looking forward to renewing my commitment to growing as a photographer,  renewing my commitment to growing as a creative, and starting a new commitment to working with other Entrepreneurs, who like myself, were committed to building and growing a successful Brand, Business, or Organization.  And so, convinced that all I needed was a clear vision, a strong brand, and a solid business model, I moved into The Black Boxx, at 3818 N Elston, to start working on The Master Plan, which as it turns out, would require that I first begin to work on THE MASTER'S PLAN.

The year was 2009, THE HUSTLE was understanding THE MASTER'S PLAN while developing The Master Plan, and the motto was "seek ye first the kingdom of GOD, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you"

Much to my surprise, I ended up spending the next three years, Spring 2009 thru Spring 2012, on what I originally thought would be a short rebuilding period.  While the the ultimate goal was to rebuild buzzMEDIA, it became clear to me that "I needed to go through My Own Transformation" first.  It was as a result of this transformation however, that I would come to realized that no matter what the brand, vision, or business model, successful Entrepreneurship, like life, is not a race but a marathon; and that the best way to create success is to Build one day at a time.

I've often heard celebrities say that keeping GOD first has been the key to their continued success.  And while I had yet to build that successful business that I had always dreamed of, for the first time in my life, I was committed to seeking a relationship with GOD, and at last putting him in his proper place in my life.  I was committed to embracing the promises of that relationship, experiencing it's transformative power, and expecting it to influence my vision, my brand, and my model.  And sure enough, as I began to understand more and more of the MASTER'S PLAN, more and more of the Master Plan was being revealed to me.

Slowly but surely key components began to surface.  Resonating truths like: "creating abundance for others is the best way to create abundance for myself" and "leveraging relationships is the key to building a successful business" and "Content is King and Distribution is Queen and Community Building is the new name of the game" all of which would become cornerstones in the development of my business model.

I started to envision a Brand that could support Tomorrow's Entrepreneurs in their undying need to Grow;  A Brand that could fosters a new thinking about relationships, media, and the exercise of growing;  A Brand built on the belief that in Tomorrow's Economy, we are all, in fact, our own Media Brands... and that as such, we are all responsible for building Connected-Communities around our Brands, Businesses, or Organizations; The belief that success for Tomorrow's Entrepreneur will rely heavily on their ability to use their Media Brand to Build Relationships, Maintain those Relationships, and ultimately Leverage those Relationships to create Growth.

Before I new it, three years had gone by, and it was finally time to give buzz The Entrepreneur, another try.  I decided that buzzMEDIA, which I intended to rename The New buzzMEDIA group, would instead, be called thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP, and that I was ready to begin the work of establishing myself as a COMMUNITY MEDIA BRAND that specializes in supporting Entrepreneurs and Industry Leaders in their community building efforts.  That I was  ready to begin the work of building a Connected-Community around My Brand, and that I would call that community thenu3GENERATION.  I decided that my business model would be to simply build my community, help the members grow their Brands, Businesses, or Organizations, and to make available Premium Services, Solutions, and Strategies, that could help maximize the community building efforts of each individual member.

The years is 2012, THE HUSTLE is the pursuit of opportunity without regard to resources currently controlled, and the motto is "Everyday is a nu3DAY"

When GOD is involved, everyday is a new day, even if you spell new... nu3.

So, what makes this time around different from the rest, you ask?  Well, this time I have a clear vision that simply requires that I build my business one day at a time, and GOD will take care of the rest.  This time, I am developing a strong brand that is committed to supporting the community of Entrepreneurs that I'm building, simply by creating daily opportunities for them to exercise their Commitment to Growth.  This time, I have a solid business model, which in addition to delivering BRANDnu3's Promise to support my community, will also allow me to offer Premium Services, Solutions, and Strategies that will help my community members in their efforts to build their own communities.  Best put, this time, all I have to do is keep on seeking the kingdom while building and covering my community, and like the last three years, everything else will continue to take care of itself, or better yet, all I have to do is remember the thinking that started inside the boxx.

"start thinking inside the boxx"

Throughout the last thee years, while trying to zero in on my target audience for thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP, I remained focused on the fact that I have always been an entrepreneur at heart --- and, on the fact that I knew that I would enjoy working with other entrepreneurs to help make a difference in the world.  I decided to focus on the fact that "like in life" --- all entrepreneurs, be they brand owners or organizational leaders, are always looking for the best and most creative ways to grow themselves and their businesses.  And that, while any proven media model must be able to "create true growth" --- most entrepreneurs have been taught that the most effective growth solutions and strategies requires them to "think outside of the box."  

Then one day, after reading one of the most inspiring definitions of entrepreneurship that I have ever come across, I became convinced that I needed to build thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP around a new thinking... A thinking that I have appropriately called "thinking inside the boxx."

A Harvard Business School Professor by the name of Howard Stevenson, defined entrepreneurship as --- "the pursuit of opportunity without regard for resources currently controlled."  This definition, along with some other key points in Professor Stevenson's teachings, made it clear that every time I want to make an important decision, there are always two possible courses of action.  I can look at the array of choices that present themselves, pick the best available option, and try to make it fit.  Or, I can do what the true entrepreneur does: Figure out the best conceivable option and then make it available.  

While a course of action was exactly what I was looking for, I was admittedly struggling to wrap my brain around the "make it available" part...  Until one day, I decided to meditate on what I thought my grandmother would say if I were blessed with the luxury of her guidance.  Low and behold... it was on that same day that I inherited my vision for thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP, and a complete understanding of what it truly means to "start thinking inside the boxx."

It became clear to me that my Grandmother was the ultimate inside the boxx thinker.  That she believed that everything is possible because it is plain and simply what she believed.  That she would tell me to pursue opportunities without regard for resources currently controlled because she believed that as long as I did my best to take advantage of the opportunities that GOD gives me to be a blessing to someone else... GOD would bless me with any and every resources I needed even if I did not currently control it.

I began imagining that if she was helping me develop my business model, she would encourage me to shift my focus from the world's economy to GOD'S economy... and, that in so doing, I would realize that how to create true growth? ---  how to make it available? --- and how to create abundance?  are all one and the same question... and that the in-plain-sight answer... is for me to develop a model that focused on how to be a blessing to others.  A model that would help entrepreneurs around the world... create abundance for themselves, by creating abundance for others.  A model that would support the building of a worldwide generation of inside the boxx thinkers... otherwise known as thenu3GENERATION.

In 2013, as I launch my "start thinking inside the boxx" campaign, I am inviting brand owners and Indutry  leaders everywhere to join thenu3GENERATION --- And, in so doing, I am guaranteeing you the full support of My Community-Building Media Network [Wnu3] --- not to mention access to the other core components of thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP --- which includes My Community-Building Media Laboratories [GOODnu3s LABS] --- and My Community-Building Social Club [nGSC].

In 2013, I will begin to personally introduce the world to each and every member of thenu3GENERATION in an effort to recognize and celebrate their commitment to Community-Building... thenu3WAY. 

My vision is that united-we-will-stand as individual communities... fitly joined together to address the growing needs of the communities that we live in --- that together we can make being a blessing synonymous with being a member of thenu3GENERATION --- And, that together we can inspire entrepreneurs everywhere to create abundance in The World's Economy while remaining committed to creating abundance in GOD'S Economy --- ultimately, creating abundance for themselves, by creating abundance for others... About three years ago, just having made a commitment to building a relationship with GOD, and conversely, a commitment to creating change in the community --- I heard the words above for the first time.  I remember them jumping out at me and provoking a whole new thinking about how I should approach the transformation of my business, as I was trying to align my life and my business with my new mission to "create abundance for myself , by creating abundance for others." 

I remember thinking that if we are all, in fact, our own media companies... TODAY --- then the role of all media companies... TODAY, will most certainly have to change for TOMORROW.  I remember thinking that as our own media companies, we will all ultimately be tasked with the responsibility of building connected communities around our organizations, our brands and our businesses --- and that, while YESTERDAY'S media companies relied on the size of their audience, TOMORROW'S media companies will need to rely on the quality of the relationships that they build with the people that they have connected themselves to.

I remember thinking that I should design thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP to be a support group for Entrepreneurs and Industry Leaders committed to the community building process --- and that, since every good business should have something that sets them apart, thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP should allign itself with my personal mission to create abundance for myself, by creating abundance for others, and not only become the best way to build a community around your brand or business --- but, the best way to address the needs of the communities that we live in... AS WELL.

Today, as I prepare for the launch of my "start thinking inside the boxx" campaign, I am also preparing for the launch of my Community-Building Media Company... thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP. 

Firstly, in concept, thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP will be dedicated to supporting me in my commitment to helping Outreach Organizations build communities around themselves, as I partner with them to address the needs of the communities that we live in.  

Secondly, thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP will support my mission to build my own community of inside-the-boxx-thinking, purpose-driven, world-citizens, committed to creating abundance for themselves by creating abundance for others --- and, make it possible for me to honor my promise to support the Community-Building efforts of each of my community members, as they work with me and my community outreach partners, to address the needs of our neighbors.  

And, thirdly but not leastly, thenu3buzz MEDIA GROUP will support any brand or business interested in employing the best Media Services, Solutions, and Strategies as part of any efforts toward maximizing the community building process.

the promise

Three years ago, I was given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  An opportunity to make good on a promise long forgotten.  Three years ago, I made an intentional decision to take advantage of that opportunity.  And now, three years later, I have begun collecting on an even greater promise, simply for having made good on one promise that I had long-ago forgotten.

See, now I realize that sometimes the promises that you make are not designed to benefit the ones that you've made them to.  But rather, some promises are simply designed to put you in the position to receive something much too great for you to understand at the time that you're making that promise.  Sometimes, an inheritance received too soon is too easily squandered, leaving nothing for those to whom it would have otherwise been passed down to.

Three years ago, I was searching for some answers:  how do I build a new life that makes me happy?  How do I build a new business that is successful?  How do I create abundance for myself that is not so easily taken away?  Three years ago, my search led me to the three most important questions I have ever been asked:  Who have you always known yourself to be?  What problems are you looking to solve?  And, what existing talents and skills can you use to get started?  And now, three years later, I am using my 10 years of experience as a Media-Ographer, to get started on my mission, to build a community of inside-the-boxx thinking, purpose driven, world citizens, committed to creating abundance for themselves, by creating abundance others.  Three years later, I am committed to helping entrepreneurs around the globe, build communities around themselves, their brands, and their businesses, while at the same time, working together to address the needs of the communities that we live in.  Three years later, I am committed to being among the thoughtful concerned citizens that are committed to changing the world.

See, now I realize that sometimes the talents and skill that you have are not designed to make you the best at what they are.  But rather, some talents and skill are simply designed to put you in a position to do something much too great for you to understand at the time that you acquired that talent or skill.  Sometimes, if the true purpose of a talent or a skill is revealed too soon, it may lack value to the person that you are, not knowing that it will be invaluable to the person that you will become. 

Looking back to go forward

As the original member, founder, and backer of thenu3GENERATION, I created Media-Ography by thenu3buzz as the first step in my commitment to "my mission."  It stands as the answer to one of the three most important questions I have ever been asked, and it is designed to convert 10 years of photographic experience, into a much needed access-to-capital vehicle, throughout the foundation laying stages of the building of thenu3GENERATION.

At age 40 --- having been blessed with a new vision for my life  --- I became aware that renewing my love for photography would be critical to my success.  I was reminded that my photography talent was my most convertible asset, and that if I was going to be successful in introducing the world to thenu3GENERATION --- I would have to do so, knowing that I only had GOD and myself to rely on.  

At first... I thought it would be absolutely necessary to look back over my 10 years of experience as a photographer and develop the perfect revenue-generating photography-business-plan.  I thought it would be necessary to examine what I did right and what I did wrong... what I did well and what I did not-so-well... what I enjoyed doing and what I did not enjoy much-at-all.  I thought it would be absolutely necessary to identify the most important variables from the last 10 year's equation, and to use them in a way that would ensure the cash flow that I would ultimately need. 

Instead... I was made to realize that GOD was the variable that was missing from my previous equation --- and that this self-same variable will be the key to my success going forward.  I was made to realized that in order to properly renew my love for photography, I must remember that it is first "the gift of a talent from GOD" and that it is given to me in order that I may create the abundant life that GOD desires for us all.  Made to realized that the last 10 years have yielded me a body of work that relieves me of my perceived need for the perfect action plan, and instead, empowers me to know that, as I commit to "my mission"   --- it is most important that I remember to respect my gifts and talents as the Blessings and the Vehicles that they are. 

So... In 2013, as I launch my "start thinking inside the boxx" campaign --- My hope is that Media-Ography by thenu3buzz will become more than just the name under which I will create EVENTSSTUDIOFAMILY, and STILL LIFE IMAGES --- More than just the means by which I will support the building of thenu3GENERATION.  My hope is that it will become my daily reminder that GOD has blessed me with several gifts and talents... and that these gifts and talents are powerful... and that with great power comes great responsibility... and that respect for the talent must be preceded by respect for the giver... and that the best way to honor the giver is to use the talent in a manner in which GOD will get the glory... and that the best way for GOD to get the glory is for me to create abundance using the gifts and talents that GOD gives me... and that the best way to create abundance for myself, is to create abundance for others... AND THAT as I commit to the building of My Community, and commit to helping you build Your Community --- we remember to work together to address the needs of the communities that we live in.  We work together to create abundance for ourselves by creating abundance for others.  Work together to inspire generations of entrepreneurs around the globe, to "start thinking inside the boxx."
